Mark Schott

Obituary of Mark J. Schott

Mark Jeffrey Schott, aged 65, passed away—surrounded by his loving family—in Evesham, NJ on May 5, 2022.

Mark was born in NYC (Bronx), NY on July 10, 1956 to the late Anneliese (nèe Tuteur) and Werner Schott. Mark grew up in River Edge, NJ and graduated with a Marketing and Management degree from Montclair State University. Mark worked for Columbia Bank for 42 years—starting as a teller and retiring as the Regional Vice President of the South Jersey Region. When he was 21, he moved to South Jersey in order to become the youngest branch manager in Columbia Bank history.

Little did Mark know that besides moving for work, he would end up meeting the love of his life in South Jersey. Mark married Janice (nèe Vellutello) on October 31, 1982. Mark and Janice moved to Pennsauken, NJ where they raised their three children: Marissa, Amanda, and Allison.

While Mark’s goal in life was to raise a family to be a positive influence on the world, Mark also accomplished this on his own. In the past, he was a coach for multiple softball and basketball teams for PYAA, Pennsauken Marching Band booster, advisor to Pennsauken Youth Action Committee Theatre, member of Pennsauken Town Watch, Former Voorhees Business Association Vice Chair, Board Member and Former Vice Chair of Southern NJ Chamber of Commerce, member of the Pennsauken Board of Education for eighteen years and served as Vice President for one year. He was a five-time Columbia Bank Community Service Award winner and the first recipient of the Lifetime Community Service Achievement Award from Columbia Bank. He was an active volunteer at Cathedral Kitchen, Ronald McDonald House, March of Dimes, and Habitat for Humanity for many years.

Recently, Mark was a Past President and Member of the Voorhees Breakfast Rotary, Animal Welfare Association Board Member, Jewish Family Services Advisory Member, Columbia Bank Foundation Board Member, and so much more. Mark was an avid golfer and loved golfing in tournaments as well as with his son-in-laws. He also was a member of the Pennsauken Senior Golf League and Biz Group as well as the winner of the Pennsauken CCGA Senior Club Championship Winner of 2020. As a man of many interests, he enjoyed going out to nice restaurants with his family before catching a Broadway show. He was also out and about at the gym, a restaurant, or concert with his wife Janice and their dear friends Kate and Bill Goldy.

Mark is survived by his family, who was the center of his universe: his wife, Janice, and their three daughters and son-in-laws: Allison and Donald Boyer, Amanda Schott and Nathaniel Maloney (and their dog Scout), and Marissa and Jared Zinn, his brother and sister-in-law Allan and Sheri Schott, beloved cousins Diane and Sandy Haft as well as their daughters Stefanie and Rebecca (Stephen), additional family, friends, and countless lives he’s touched through his work in his communities.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation and Funeral on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM and Wednesday from 9 to 10 AM at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 N. Browning Road, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM Wednesday.  Entombment will follow at Calvary Mausoleum in Cherry Hill.  As per Mark’s wishes, the family will not sit shiva.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mark Schott Scholarship Fund and sent to Columbia Bank, 253 E. Main Street, Maple Shade, NJ 08052. The scholarship will go to a student at Pennsauken High School that exhibits the traits Mark believed to be the most important in this world: showing kindness to others and reaching out a hand to those in need.
