Obituary of James Shiflet
James Carleton Shiflet, age 68 of Estero, FL and Wheeling, WV; formerly of Cherry Hill & Marlton, NJ, passed away suddenly on October 14, 2015.
He was born on February 2, 1947; the son of the late James and Sally W. Shiflet of Wenonah, NJ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Kathleen Shiflet (nee Norris). Jim is survived by his fiance Candace Schuh McCarthy; two sisters Jayne (Jay) Swope of Sewell and Judi Athey of Greensburg, PA; his children Megan (Joe) Carnell of Silver Spring, MD, David (Bridget) Shiflet of Clifton Heights, PA and Andrew (Breen Murphy) Shiflet of Emeryville, CA, his grandchildren Morgan, Donovan, Addison, Quinn and Kate, and his father in law Cornelius L. Norris Jr.
Jim was a 1965 graduate of Woodbury High School. He received his B.A. in Finance and Accounting ('69) and M.B.A. ('78) from Rutgers University. Jim served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He was the Controller at Prince Foods from 1976 - 1981 and worked for Home Insurance which was acquired by Zurich Financial Services from 1981 until he retired in December of 2011.
Jim was a longtime parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cherry Hill. He was a volunteer at the Campbell's Soup Academy and the St. Joseph's Carpenter Society and spent countless hours volunteering at St. Joseph's Pro-Cathedral School in Camden.
Relatives and friends are invited to Jim's viewing and visitation with the family Wednesday evening 6-8pm and Thursday 10-11am at The Catholic Church of St. Mary, 2001 Springdale Rd. in Cherry Hill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am. Interment will follow at Colestown Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
