Obituary of Dorman "Cork" S. Camden Jr.

Dorman "Cork" S. Camden, Jr., age 71 years of Oaklyn, NJ (formerly Charlottesville, VA) passed away on Thursday, January 11th, 2024 surrounded by his daughter Abi Camden and wife Beth Picknally Camden and their love, after a brief battle with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer. He was born on January 5th 1953 in Lexington, VA to the late Dr. Dorman S. Camden, Sr. and Norma Jane Camden.

Cork was a loving, proud, and dedicated father and husband to daughter Abi and wife Beth. He also leaves behind two beloved sisters, Lisa Camden and Lori Payne (Jeff), nephew Will Payne and niece Anne Walker Payne, many nieces and nephews of the Picknally family, and many beloved friends, including the late Ralph Barnwell, who was like a father to him, as well as three kitties who he loved very much. Cork was a man of numerous talents and gifts. He was an extremely talented musician who graced many with his guitar music, including those of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. He had many gifts beyond music, including an artistic eye and hand for carving wood, building models, calligraphy, drawing, and painting; he was also a brilliant man who loved reading, learning, thinking, and writing. Cork enjoyed spending time fishing at the lake or creek, building and studying his stamp collection, and designing boats and model airplanes. He was a proud Navy Veteran, a Knight of Columbus, and a graduate of the McCallie School. Cork possessed a special kindness and thoughtfulness that was felt by those around him. He will be well missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to the Visitation & Funeral on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10-11 AM at the Church of St. Stephen, 6300 Browning Road in Pennsauken, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Following the funeral, he will be returned to his homeland of Virginia in a private service for family at Cool Spring Natural Cemetery, maintained by the Trappist Monks of Holy Cross Abbey in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Agnes Scott College or your local animal shelter, both of which held a special place in Cork’s heart.

(It should be noted that Cork wanted his obituary to simply read: “Cork is gone.” He had a wonderful sense of humor.)
