Marguerite Allen

Obituary of Marguerite W. Allen

Marguerite W. Allen (nee Watson), age 98 years of Philadelphia PA, formerly of New York City, NY, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2022.

Beloved wife of the late Ezekiel Allen. Devoted mother of Muriel A. Alvarez (Michael). Loving grandmother of Courtney and Kelsey.

Marguerite was born on February 19, 1924 in Washington, DC to the late Charles and Jesse Watson (nee Carter). Prior to retirement, Marguerite worked for many years at the Bell Telephone company. She worked very hard to progress up the chain of command to become District Manager for Yellow Pages Quality Control. Marguerite was a very fashionable woman who loved to shop. She always made sure to look her best, even when she didn't have anywhere to go. She enjoyed music, cooking, knitting and travelling. Some of her favorite trips were with her family to Amsterdam, Mexico, San Francisco, Chicago, and Hawaii where she celebrated her 90th birthday. Marguerite spent many years volunteering her time teaching 2nd graders how to read. In addition she was a long standing member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Germantown and served as treasurer of the Ever Ready Club for several years. She also enjoyed playing Pokeno with her group of friends. Marguerite loved to entertain, enjoy a scotch on the rocks, and chat with people. She always made friends wherever she went and could talk to anyone. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with her granddaughters.
