Mr. Mike, as we all called him, opened Larchmont School in 1990. Keeping the school clean each day was a challenge because the common areas were still under construction. Mike took pride in his responsibilities and each day the teachers and students were greeted with a sparkling environment. It set the tone for the day. Not to mention that Mike was Mr. Ruhland’s right hand man when it came to unruly students. All the teacher had to say was, “do I need to call Mr. Mike?” Invoking his name usually did the trick. If Mr. Mike appeared at your door, you could hear a pin drop. His presence was enough to settle down the unruly character/s and the teacher could continue with the lesson. He was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest man but his presence commanded respect.
I know my life at Larchmont was enriched by this man and for that I am very grateful.
My condolences to Mike’s family. He will be missed but not forgotten.
